We’ve always loved answering our readers’ questions (and hearing your opinions, too). He shares four more ideas, including fun party games and his top picks for London.
Q. “I’m trying to start dating again after a bad breakup. I’m probably going to have a lot of first dates. Do you have any recommendations for uniforms for first dates in warmer climates? Casual But something cute is ideal.” — Katie
A. good question. Don’t underestimate the power of a white T-shirt and jeans for spring and summer. There’s a reason this style is iconic. When you put them on, you instantly feel sexy and relaxed. Universal Standard has great pants in his style of jeans, and you can even recreate his Audrey Hepburn look with this fit. Also, white T-shirts are incredibly soft. (Have you ever worn one? You’ll have to try it to believe it.) If you want to make it a little dressier, pair it with a polo sweater and hoop earrings. Enjoy your date, we’re rooting for you!
Q. My new friends are inviting me and my husband out for pot roast on Sunday (so nice!).What are some easy non-alcoholic drinks to take and share? – Johanna
A. I consulted Katherine Newman, who has strong ideas about non-alcoholic beverages. “Aaah! I have so many ideas,” she emailed back. “Here are three: Pineapple juice + seltzer + a little bitters + ice + lime wedges. Jalapeno limeade + frozen passion fruit cubes (sold at Whole Foods) + seltzer. Sour cherry juice + maple syrup + chipotle chili peppers ( (puréed from a can) + ice + soda. Otherwise, a good N/A beer like Sam Adams’ Just the Haze or Hoppy Seltzer (Lagunitas is the best).” Thank you, Catherine! Her answer reminded me that Woerfer’s N/A Rosé is great, and you can’t go wrong with sparkling water and sliced lemon/lime/orange.
Q. What group games for adults can be played even in a small apartment? I’m planning on inviting my cousins over, so any ideas would be appreciated. In the past, I’ve enjoyed games like Code Names and Anomia. — Anna
A. Oh, you’ve come to the right place! I love group games so much that my cousins start laughing when I say, “Hey guys, if you want to…” Because they know exactly what will happen. For large groups, Celebrity is great fun and all you need is a pen, paper, and a bowl. Neanderthals are cheerful. Try to have your team guess as many words as possible, but only monosyllabic clues can be used. (When my friend Lizzie tried to explain “fire,” she said, “Man made it. This. The first.”) Finally, you could play a number game where you as a group try to count as many as you can; means that no one can call the number at the same time. It’s surprisingly difficult and very interesting!
Q. Cup of Jo High Mind, could you give me some tips for London? I’m planning to visit soon and would like to know your recommendations for restaurants, shops, art exhibitions, etc. — Vale
A. Vale, I want to know the answer to this too! When I go to England, I take the train straight to Cornwall, but I’m always curious about what’s hidden in London. Dear readers, please share your ideas in the comments section.
