Murder and aggravated assault charges were pleaded guilty Thursday to two brutal stranger attacks in downtown Vancouver, the day after a rush-hour attack that left one man dead and another with a severed hand.
Brendan Colin McBride, 34, of White Rock, British Columbia, has been charged in an attack that happened Wednesday morning that the city’s police chief described as “completely random,” according to public court records.
Police were called to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary on Dunsmuir Road just after 7.30am after reports of a man in his 50s with a severed hand and a knife wound to the head. The man was taken to hospital for emergency treatment and is expected to survive.
Eight minutes later, at 7:46 a.m., officers were called to the area of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre where a second man had been attacked. Police said the victim, who was about 70 years old, died at the scene.
More than an hour later, police were called to Habitat Island, near the Olympic Village, after reports of a man behaving erratically and yelling at passers-by, and a 34-year-old suspect was arrested.
