The United Arab Emirates is envisioning the future of unmanned warfare with the acquisition of 20 tracked robotic combat vehicles and 40 THeMIS unmanned ground vehicles from Estonian manufacturer Milrem Robotics.
Milrem, owned by UAE defense conglomerate EDGE Group, will equip the UAE Armed Forces and the UAE Ministry of Defense with 60 tracked RCVs and THeMIS UGVs as part of an initial operational test program, with a larger scale once completed. We plan to continue receiving orders. .
The signed agreement was announced during the Unmanned Systems Exhibition Conference (UMEX) held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center earlier this week.
Under the terms of the agreement, Milrem Robotics will lead an experiment and test program aimed at integrating unmanned ground capabilities into the UAE military’s arsenal.
Milrem Robotics CEO Kulder Vashi said the THeMIS UGV and tracked RCV will be equipped with advanced autonomous capabilities, third-party payloads and high-quality communication solutions.

“EDGE Group’s investment in Milrem Robotics opens new avenues for us in the region and further expands our international growth and market presence,” he said.
“Launching the world’s largest combat robot program with the UAE Ministry of Defense not only proves the competitiveness of our solutions, but also highlights the strategic value of incorporating advanced robotic systems into the organization of the armed forces and strengthen combat capabilities and operational efficiency.”
The contract includes the supply of a tracked RCV with a 30mm MK44 gun, a THeMIS combat unit with a 30mm M230LF remote weapons station and indirect fire system, and a THeMIS surveillance unit with a radar and camera system including fire detection capabilities. include.
Milrem will also provide comprehensive training and supervision to enable relevant personnel to achieve sufficient skill levels in operating combat unmanned ground systems.
During UMEX2024, EDGE Group also announced a series of three new rugged unmanned products for use in the air and land domain: GY300, BUNKER PRO and M-BUGGY.
The three remotely piloted vehicles will reportedly cover tactical intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and logistics support and are designed to operate in harsh environments.
The GY300 unmanned maintenance-free, highly reliable logistics autogyro is capable of transporting 300kg payloads with low operating costs and is designed for short takeoffs and landings.
BUNKER PRO Tracked High Performance Unmanned Ground Vehicle is fully autonomous and used for remote monitoring, exploration, platooning, target identification, and perimeter patrolling.
The M-BUGGY wheeled multi-terrain UGV utilizes imaging and sensor technology to provide actionable ISR data.
“UMEX is a major global event in the unmanned systems space and is the ideal platform for EDGE to showcase our latest portfolio of advanced remotely piloted and autonomous solutions,” said EDGE Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. said Mansour Al Mulla.
“We are proud to appear as a strategic partner at this event for the third time, where we will be introducing innovative and The launch of new products underlines the Group’s dedication to developing a broad and diverse range of capabilities that will significantly contribute to strengthening the advanced sovereign defense ecosystem. ”
