United Cyprus Party (BKP) General Secretary Izzet İzkan said it was dangerous and unacceptable for parliament to approve the protocol granting the allocation and use of Geçitkale Airport to the Turkish military.
Iscan expressed concern that Gechitkale Airport would be turned into a military base for fighter jets, endangering the lives of civilians.
In a written statement, Izzet İzkan stressed that Cyprus is a common homeland for Cypriots and that the realization of a common homeland is possible through joint efforts, not through arms. He criticized the approval of a protocol between the Government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Turkish government that provides Geçitkale Airport to the Turkish military, which he considers to pose risks and is unacceptable.
Izkan claimed that the area would soon become a military target with fighter jets stationed there, putting civilian lives at risk. He advocated a collective struggle rather than taking up arms to reach a common homeland.
