Two Syrian soldiers were injured in an Israeli airstrike in eastern Syria late Monday night, according to Syrian state media.
The attack on military positions in Syria’s Deir Ezzor region marks a departure from previous Israeli actions in Syria, which were mainly concentrated in Damascus and Aleppo.
Syrian state news agency SanaMilitary sources said the attack occurred just before midnight on Monday.
Spokesperson Sana reported that “the Israeli enemy carried out an air invasion against a number of Syrian military positions near Deir Ezzor.”
The attack occurred just two days after an Israeli strike near Damascus targeted an Iranian weapons shipment bound for Lebanon.
