PHNOM PENH, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) – Cambodia on Wednesday celebrated the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Cambodian Army (RCA), a division of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF).
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, in full military uniform, presided over the ceremony, which was held at the RCA headquarters on the western outskirts of the capital, Phnom Penh.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister rode in an open camouflage jeep to inspect the troops before taking to the stage.
The event featured a military parade that demonstrated tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, rocket launchers, other weapons and military trucks.
At the ceremony, in front of thousands of soldiers, Hun Manet expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the military, which has made great sacrifices to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and people.
He said the RCA has also made significant contributions to maintaining the Kingdom’s hard-won peace, which is a paramount condition for national development.
He encouraged the armed forces to regularly increase their capabilities to meet current needs and maintain the latest military equipment.
RCA was founded in 1999. The RCAF, established in 1953, also consists of the Cambodian Navy and the Cambodian Air Force. ■
