Ring is rebranding its subscription products, ditching Ring Protect in favor of Ring Home, and introducing some new features to celebrate. The most notable change is the addition of 24/7 recording if you have some wired video doorbells, ensuring you don’t miss anything even if a motion alert isn’t triggered. You’ll also now receive previews of video clips through push notifications without waiting for the app to open.
In addition, users will now have the option of extended live view and continuous live view of the camera, allowing them to monitor what’s going on whenever they want. For example, extended live view extends the camera monitoring time limit from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, while continuous live view removes the limit completely. You can also use Doorbell Call, which calls you when someone is at your door and connects directly to your smartphone.
The price of each of the new Ring Home tiers is finally, for now, the same as the previous Ring Protect. Home Basic costs $4.99 per month, Home Standard costs $9.99 per month, and Home Premium costs $19.99 per month. Naturally, enhanced live view and doorbell calling are available on the standard level, while continuous live view and 24/7 recording are unlocked on the premium level.
The reason for the hierarchy change is to allow users to bolt on additional packages from Ring’s ever-growing ecosystem of security products. When the change begins on November 5th, customers will be able to add Virtual Security Guard and Alarm Professional Monitoring to the same plan.
