TEHRAN – The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) naval commander announced that his force has equipped two different types of warships with a new cruise missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers.
Maj. Gen. Ali Reza Tansiri met with Tasnim on Saturday and said the indigenous cruise missile Qadr-474 can reach targets within a range of 2,000 kilometers.
He said the Mahdavi-class and Soleimani-class ships are equipped with new long-range cruise missiles.
The sophisticated Soleimani warship, named after Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani after his signature, is equipped with missiles with ranges of 200, 300, 750 and 2,000 kilometers.
He also said that the Revolutionary Guards Navy will use a new surface-to-sea cruise missile named after Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
“The Abu Mahdi missile and two other cruise missiles with ranges of 750 km and 2,000 km are smart and can be guided before detonation to target new targets, and can be launched from deep underground or in the shadow of mountains. . struck naval targets,” he said.
The commander said four Soleimani-class ships are scheduled to be unveiled by the Revolutionary Guards Navy during the current Iranian year, which ends on March 20, 2024.
He said the ships were named after martyrs Sayad Shirazi, Hassan Baqeri, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Rais Ali Dervari.
“The new military catamaran can travel at a speed of 45 knots and carries missiles with a range of 300 km and 750 km,” Tansiri continued.
“The Revolutionary Guards Navy is fully prepared and in control of the Persian Gulf.”
The Revolutionary Guards Navy commander also said that his forces are currently at the highest level of readiness and have complete control of the airspace, surface and underground areas of the Persian Gulf.
Tansiri told reporters in the southern Iranian port city of Bushehr on Friday that the Revolutionary Guards Navy constantly monitors enemy shipping movements in the Persian Gulf.
He went on to say that the Persian Gulf’s vital waterways are completely safe.
He emphasized that Iran designs and produces advanced military equipment domestically, stating that “the Revolutionary Guard’s naval and ground forces, the ground forces, and the Revolutionary Guard’s aerospace sector have made great progress. ” he pointed out.
He added: “With such equipment and capable troops, the level of readiness of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran is increasing day by day.”
The Arvand River, which straddles the border between Iran and Iraq, and the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf with the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean, are the two boundaries of the Persian Gulf, which covers an area of approximately 251,000 square kilometers. size.
