Iran’s top commander has vowed that the Islamic Republic will help further strengthen the Syrian army and stand together with Arab countries against the Israeli regime.
Iranian Army Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Baqeri made the remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with visiting Syrian Army and Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Abdul Karim Mahmoud Ibrahim in Tehran.
Describing the Syrian army as an “important axis of anti-Zionist resistance” in the region, Baqeri said: “We will cooperate with each other to strengthen this axis and stand united against the bullying of the Zionist regime.” Ta.
He said that in the talks with the Syrian side, there was a discussion on providing training to the Syrian army at various levels.
Military officials also spoke of the transfer of the Islamic Republic’s experience in the military field to the Syrian Army and the “reconstruction of the Syrian Army in the post-war period.”
Baqeri praised the Syrian army’s counter-terrorism efforts for helping to establish adequate security across the Arab world. “We hope that the reconstruction period in Syria will start soon,” he added.
Syria fell into an epidemic of foreign-backed extremism and terrorism in 2011.
The terrorist organization, with significant support from the Israeli regime, soon overran large swathes of Syrian territory. The regime regularly targets Syria’s defenses and would provide a safe haven for terrorists in the Golan Heights, an Arab country that has been under Tel Aviv’s occupation since 1967.
Given the overall situation, Damascus sought the support of its allies, including Iran, to reverse the terrorist organization’s gains.
Subsequently, the Islamic Republic began providing significant military advisory assistance to Syria’s counterterrorism efforts.
Through joint efforts, Syria has successfully fought back against terrorist organizations and has now managed to restore sovereignty over large parts of the country.
A Syrian official said the Iranian government and Damascus “can cooperate with each other to facilitate the end of the domination of imperialist countries.”
“We have long cooperated with the Islamic Republic and will continue to do so in line with the interests of both countries,” Ibrahim said.
The summit took place a week after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s historic visit to Syria.
During his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad, Raisi stressed that the Islamic Republic stands by its Syrian compatriots in the era of post-war reconstruction and development, just as it did in the fight against terrorism.
The Syrian president also praised Iran’s support for Syria throughout the Arab conflict, saying that the Syrian people would not forget Iran’s assistance in its troubles.
President Assad called for Iran to play a greater role in establishing sustainable peace in the country and rebuilding areas devastated by Syria’s civil war.
