Major General Mohammad Baqeri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, said the Islamic Republic is ready to foster close intelligence cooperation with Oman in the fight against smuggling.
In a meeting with Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister of Defense Shihab Bin, Baqeri said, “After the closure of Iran’s eastern borders, smuggling routes have changed and the activities of smuggling organizations at sea have increased. It’s dangerous.” Tariq Al Said in Muscat on Monday.
“We stand ready for joint intelligence and operational cooperation to combat this evil phenomenon,” he added.
He praised Oman’s support to Iran in various areas, including the berthing of Iranian ships in Omani ports, and said that the Iranian government welcomes further exchanges of such visits in the future.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has rich experience in combating terrorism, modern warfare and equipment, and we are ready to share that experience with Oman,” the commander-in-chief said.
Iran and Oman have conducted several joint naval exercises in recent years.
In December 2021, the Iranian Navy and the Royal Omani Navy conducted joint military exercises in Iranian territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman.
This is the ninth military exercise of its kind between Iran and the Omani Navy, and was carried out based on an agreement reached during a meeting held by the Joint Military Friendship Committee of the two countries.
In his remarks, Bakeri also warned of plots by foreign powers to exploit differences between countries in the region and urged negotiations to thwart enemy plots.
He noted the good status of relations between Iran and Oman, noting that mutual relations can serve as a model for cooperation between regional countries to promote regional security.
Mr. Baqeri invited Omani military officials to visit Iran with the aim of improving bilateral cooperation in various defense fields.
Al Said said the current strategic Muscat visit by Iran’s supreme commander could help prepare the ground for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Muscat and the Sultan of Oman’s visit to Tehran in the near future. He said that there is a sex.
He expressed hope that Iran and Oman can counter enemy threats through joint cooperation.
Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister also welcomed the normalization of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, saying it would help restore peace in the region.
He stressed that Iran and Oman have a responsibility to ensure the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, and said the two countries should not allow their enemies to undermine security in the region under the pretext of trivial issues. .
