The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of conductor Jun Merkl as ISO’s eighth music director, effective September 1, 2024.

Merkl has been serving as ISO’s artistic advisor since 2021 and will serve as music director-designate until September. In his new role, he will bring creative leadership to his ISO through visionary programming, community engagement, and artistic development.
