Germany’s Sea Kings represent Ukraine
Following the delivery of three British Sea King aircraft reported by Scramble on May 14, 2023, Germany has now announced that it will provide six of these helicopters to Ukraine.
Germany’s Sea King Mk41 multi-purpose helicopters are in surplus as they are being replaced by new Sea Lion helicopters based on the Airbus NH90. This was revealed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on January 23 at a meeting of the so-called Ramstein-style Ukrainian Defense Contact Group. This is the first delivery of this type in Germany.
The arrival of these additional Sea Kings will be a boost for the Ukrainian military. In recent years, its most important mission has been search and rescue, but this type can also be used for anti-shipping missions and troop transport. The delivery includes aviation and technical training support as well as an extensive accessory and spare parts package. Submissions will be available from the second quarter of 2024.
