TORONTO — Five things to watch in Canada’s business world over the next week:
Toronto Homes for Sale
The Toronto Area Real Estate Association will release July home sales figures on Tuesday. Home sales in June were down 16.4 per cent compared to a year ago, with the average sales price down 1.6 per cent.
Air Canada Revenue
Air Canada reports second-quarter results on Wednesday. Last month, Canada’s largest airline lowered its 2024 profit forecast, saying plane load factors this summer were not as high as expected, due in part to tough competition in international markets.
Shopify Revenue
The Ottawa-based e-commerce giant reports second-quarter results on Wednesday. It posted a net loss of $273 million in the first quarter, but revenue rose 23 per cent in the same period.
Saltwire and Halifax Herald hearings
Newspaper publishers Saltwire Network Inc. and the Halifax Herald Co. are scheduled to appear in court Thursday to seek permission to sell themselves to Postmedia Network Inc. Saltwire and the Herald Co. gained court-ordered protection in March from creditors owed more than $90 million.
Employment Report
Statistics Canada will release its July Labour Force Survey on Friday, providing the latest data on the job market. The Canadian economy lost 1,400 jobs in June, and the unemployment rate rose to its highest level in more than two years.
