Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come a long way in five years.
The couple, who just finished a tour of Nigeria, are in a much better place now than they were when they visited Africa in 2019.
“We’re just getting along well. And it’s nice to see our family develop and evolve. It’s nice after all. We’re really happy,” the Sussexes said. The duchess advised the public on Tuesday.
During their three-day stay, they stopped by an Invictus video game charity called Nigeria Unconquered, spent some time at the Naval Hospital in Kaduna, participated in a panel discussion on women in management, and spoke with university students at Rightway. I was talking to. Academy in Abuja.
Markle, 42, advised academics that her daughter, Princess Lilibet, who is practically 3, recently said, “Mommy, I see myself in you.” Reflecting on these phrases, the former actress said: “As I walk around this room, I see myself just as beautiful in all of you.”
Meanwhile, Harry, 39, reminded the group: “It’s okay not to be OK.” This was clearly a reminder of their turbulent last years on the continent.
At the time, her son Prince Archie was just a few months old, and Markle was clearly struggling with all the harmful press she was receiving.
“As any woman, especially when you’re pregnant, you actually become weaker. That’s what makes it really difficult,” she said at the time in an emotional interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby.
“Then when you’re able to have a new child, especially as a girl, I understand that it’s a big deal,” she continued. “So if you just add to the prime an attempt to be a new mother or an attempt to be a newlywed, it’s, um, yeah. In effect, I’m guessing, and even more, ‘I’m okay with that. Not many people have asked me if that’s the case, but that’s definitely a real factor going on behind the scenes.” Thank you for asking.
Markle added that she was warned before marrying Prince Harry that “British tabloids would destroy your life”. Despite this, she had “no idea” how “tiring” and “difficult” it would be.
Just a few months later, she and the Duke of Sussex once again stepped away from royal duties and moved to North America.
They now live in California with their two children, but relations with Harry’s family remain strained.
