Even more than the time-travel shenanigans of “Discovery” Season 2, the mysterious dilithium “Burn” of Season 3 that caused the collapse of Starfleet, and the incredibly advanced extraterrestrials that endanger the entire galaxy. How can you up the ante? What are the risks for season 4? Well, we know that going back to the origins of life is definitely one way to get the job done and get things done successfully.
It took until the final moments of the Season 5 premiere for the whole picture (or at least part of it) to take shape, but what a turn of events. After all, these two scavengers couldn’t have chosen a more important piece of Trek lore to escape with an item of Starfleet’s highest priority.So why tie things together? that The most underrated “The Next Generation” episode of all time? At the SXSW premiere of Discovery, producer Michelle Paradise said:
“‘The Chase’ is an episode that touches many of us because it deals with very big ideas and big themes: where we come from, the creation of life; and , that was this one episode, and that was it.” […] And it left us with so many questions. ”
That’s to say the least. Even in his science fiction series like “Star Trek,” these are incredibly quick-witted ideas to work on. It’s another thing for a random episode in the early 1990s to suddenly establish such a major change in canon. It’s quite another thing for “Discovery” to double down. But Paradise says this was done with character and theme in mind.
