On January 11, Cornell University’s College of Arts and Sciences’ College Scholars Program officially approved its first independent study focused on Bitcoin. The pioneers behind this academic milestone are: Ella Huffstudent at Cornell University and will be embarking on a unique academic journey centered around Bitcoin.
“The last 15 months have been a long road to approval, but incredibly rewarding,” Huff told Bitcoin Magazine. “I continue to believe that devoting time and energy to the study of Bitcoin is the most valuable academic endeavor.” I am especially grateful to have been able to study at Cornell University, whose founders championed the ideals that Bitcoin embodies by helping develop rails for the transfer of wealth.”
Ella’s majors include a wide range of subjects, including cognitive science, psychology, philosophy, information science, government, economics, anthropology, and history. “If you ask me, ‘What is your major as a college scholar?’ my response would be Bitcoin,” she further explained. “Cognitive and game-theoretic factors related to Bitcoin adoption and Bitcoin impact highlight why Bitcoin matters.”
As part of the requirements of the College Scholar Program, Ella will undertake the task of writing and presenting an honors thesis with oral defense in May 2025. Although her thesis will adapt and evolve in response to new information over time, Ella believes that the central focus of her thesis will be the global adoption and revolution of Bitcoin, a network and asset.
