OpenAI’s ChatGPT long-awaited search engine is now available.
The company on Thursday announced ChatGPT Search, a new ChatGPT feature for “getting quick and timely answers with links to relevant web sources.” Although rumored to be a standalone search engine, ChatGPT Search is now integrated within the existing ChatGPT interface. You can access real-time search by manually clicking the web search icon or by typing a prompt and letting ChatGPT decide whether you want to search the web for the current results.

ChatGPT Search closes the competitive gap with Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. These have already been included in their respective search engines for some time. many Users already prefer ChatGPT to Google Searchads have become cluttered and low-quality spam content has increased. Previously, the knowledge deadline for new ChatGPT models was October 2023. Now, thanks to media partnerships, ChatGPT uses real-time search to return the latest information on weather, stocks, sports, news, maps, and more.

When you search with ChatGPT search, you get a traditional conversational response with a button that takes you to a list of sources. Clicking on the source brings up a familiar search engine format with headings and links to each article.
Citations appear in the sidebar in traditional search engine format.

ChatGPT Search is currently available to ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Team users, and SearchGPT pilot testers, and will be available to ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users in the coming weeks. OpenAI also shared that it plans to offer ChatGPT Search to Advanced Voice Mode and free users in the future.
