The 41st Canadian Brigade Group will conduct Exercise Northern Grizzly at CFB Cold Lake from January 26-28. This comprehensive training program includes military exercises and helicopter operations, primarily using CH-146 Griffon helicopters, in various areas including a dog walking area commonly known as Bark Park.
As part of this effort, the dog walking area located north of CFB Cold Lake along the road to cadet camp will be temporarily closed during designated periods for safety reasons. The public should take special precautions, as the helicopters used in the exercise generate large winds that can throw objects around. In areas with active helicopter operations, it is important that individuals adhere to safety guidelines, maintain a safe distance, and follow instructions.
Exercise Northern Grizzly is designed to focus on winter force protection, with the aim of strengthening the Canadian Armed Forces’ response to emergencies, particularly in difficult Arctic conditions. The CH-146 Griffon helicopter will play a central role and will be engaged in base rescue, casualty evacuation, and search and rescue operations.
Neighboring residents are advised to be aware of increased CH-146 Griffon helicopter flights during the exercise, primarily in the CFB Cold Lake training area and during daylight hours. Despite efforts to minimize disruption, increased air traffic is critical to maintaining operational readiness in harsh winter environments.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this temporary closure. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact 4 Wing Operations at 780-840-8000.
