Country music’s biggest night will be without one of the world’s biggest celebrities.
The result is shocking to the world.
On Monday, September 6, the Country Music Association released the list of nominees for the 58th Annual CMA Awards, with Morgan Wallen leading the way with a total of seven nominations.
What about Beyoncé? She didn’t receive one.
No. Just one.
The shutout is infuriating and surprising, as Beyoncé had just enjoyed a breakthrough with the critically acclaimed release of her first country music album not long ago.
that Debuted at the top of the charts.
Back in March, the superstar explained the inspiration behind “Cowboy Carter,” saying, “This project was born out of an experience I had many years ago where I felt unwelcome.”
She added at the time:
“That experience prompted me to delve deeper into country music history and research our extensive music archives.
“It’s so gratifying to see how music can unite so many people around the world while also amplifying the voices of those who have dedicated so much of their lives to telling our musical history.”
It’s fair to say Beyoncé once again feels unwelcome in the genre.
Beyoncé’s latest album features collaborations with country artists ranging from Malone and Shaboozy (nominated in two categories today) to one of the genre’s pioneers, Linda Martel.
Following the release of “Cowboy Carter” on March 29, the album rose to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making Beyoncé the first black woman to top the Hot Country Albums chart.
The artist has also scored top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with a revised cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and “II Most Wanted” featuring Miley Cyrus.
“Thank you @Beyonce for opening the door for us, starting the conversation and giving us one of the most groundbreaking country albums of all time!” Shaboozie posted on social media after the nominations were announced.
The 58th annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 20 at 8pm ET/7pm PT on ABC.
