algiers The Algerian Ministry of Defense (MDN) on Wednesday published a comprehensive operational report summarizing the activities of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) during the week of November 15th to November 21st.
In the ongoing fight against terrorism, the ANP detachment successfully carried out an operation that resulted in the arrest of eight persons who were supporting terrorist groups. Additionally, the military discovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), demonstrating continued efforts to neutralize the domestic terrorist threat.
The report also highlighted the ANP’s commitment to combating organized crime. In particular, 50 drug traffickers were arrested and an attempt to smuggle 3 quintals and 81 kilograms of processed cannabis from the border with Morocco was thwarted. Additionally, the ANP seized 4,376 kilograms of cocaine and 240,245 psychotropic tablets, underscoring its comprehensive approach to tackling drug-related crimes.
In different areas such as Tamanrasset, Borj Bazi Mokhtar, Ghezam and Salah El Janet, the ANP carried out operations that led to the arrest of 158 people. The seized items included 38 vehicles, 224 generators, 84 jackhammers, eight metal detectors and 130 quintals of stone and gold mixture. Explosives, detonators and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations were also seized.
Addressing smuggling concerns, ANP successfully arrested 15 people involved in smuggling activities. The seized items included six shotguns, 29,634 liters of fuel, 31 tons of smuggled food and 16 quintals of tobacco. Additionally, 21,389 units of various beverages were seized in separate operations across the country.
The report also touched on tackling illegal immigration. The Coast Guard rescued 449 people on board the vessel, underscoring its commitment to maritime safety. At the same time, 333 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were arrested across the country, highlighting the multifaceted approach to maintaining border integrity and national security.
