Carlos del Toro suggested in a speech at the Royal United Services Institute in London that further investment in the Royal Navy should be considered.
“Given the threats that exist today, I think it’s important that the UK reassess its current position,” said the retired US Navy commander.
Del Toro said more investment was needed to strengthen the military in preparation for the possibility of a major conflict erupting between the West and Russia.
His comments echoed those made by British military commander General Sir Patrick Saunders, who said the military was currently too small to participate in a major war.
This sparked a debate over the idea of forming some kind of citizen army to strengthen Britain’s defences.
Mr del Toro added: “I commend the UK for announcing an additional £2.5bn of military aid to our Ukrainian partners.”
“Your support to Ukraine at this critical moment in the war with Russia complements the military and humanitarian aid packages we have already received from several NATO and EU countries.
“All of this represents our collective and continued support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.”
“Pirates, terrorism, training, and the leading role of the UK in this marine coalition, which deals with various concerns about security cooperation in the Red Sea and Aden Bay, is that the Navy in Japan remains the international community. It is a recognition of the fact that it is an important factor.
“And as important for our global marine -shared land stability is that the British Navy’s presence is increasing throughout the Pacific and the Indian Ocean.
“More importantly, the Iranian-aligned Houthis continue to carry out unprovoked attacks on civilian commercial vessels navigating the Red Sea’s international waters.”
“Six Diamonds, including Diamond, have shot down a large number of anti -ship cruising missiles, ballistic missiles, and unmanned aircraft fired by the Fushi school.”
